Purchasing a new home may appear like a dream, however, selling your home can become an overwhelming nightmare. Before picturing yourself in your brand new home, there are a few tasks you have to complete. Home inspections are the examination of the condition of your home conducted by a certified home inspector. The report completed by this certified inspector will cover things such as the state of your home’s heating system, plumbing system, insulation, roofing, electrical system, and much more. No home is perfect and the requirements stated in each report may vary. This process can be time and money consuming.

Understanding the requirements of the home inspection is important to pass “the test.” Every report will vary depending on the condition of your home. Here’s a list of what the inspector will be examining during this process (provided by the American Society of Home Inspectors).

Don’t be afraid to give those pillows an extra fluff!

Let your home inspector check everything. This process may seem intimidating. However, at this point, you’ve done the work. Your roof is sturdy, your plumbing is properly functioning, your heating system is up and running while your floors are squeaky clean. It will be quick and painless if everything is out in the open, even the beautiful flaws that every home has.

  1. Keep important documents with you.

Lastly, always keep documents on hand. Documents of your real estate and the process in which you went through to purchase or build your home are important. It will not only give you peace of mind but the ability to compare and contrast your buying and selling process in the future.
