How to get a real estate license

               Steps of acquiring a real estate license

  1. Understanding of state licensing and education requirements:

               The requirement for free licensing courses and licensing applications are different in every state. You have to check with your real estate commission to understand what requirements are to obtain your license.

               Usually there is a requirement of 60 to 90 hours of college level education on real estate basics including deeds, property ownership, titles, and contracts. In-person and online classes are available but your courses and school must be approved by your States real estate license authority.

  • Take a pre licensing course:

               Becoming a real estate agent requires time and a financial investment. You have to understand what resources you need to budget before you begin.

               You should know what your options are and energy choose the one that’s right for your lifestyle and schedule. Many pre-licensing schools meet for a set number of classes over several weeks, while others allow you to move through courses at your own pace.

  • Pass your state licencing exam:

               The licensing exam will take between 1.5 to 3.5 hours to complete a depending on your state. You have to pay an exam fee between $15 and $60.

  • File a real estate license application:

               Once you’ve successfully passed the exam, you have to submit your test results, license applications, add application fees which will cost you between $50 to $50 and you might be required to undergo a background check which will cost between $40 and $80.

               Check your States real estate commission to find out whether an error and omissions insurance before application is necessary.

               In every state you must be at least 18 on 19 years old and have either a GED or high school diploma to apply for real estate license.

  • Find a real estate brokerage:

               After getting a license, you cannot just start selling houses right away. Most States require you to work with real estate broker who is going to sponsor your first two or three years as an agent. Real estate broker can be an agency or an office or a single person.

  • Join the national association of realtors (NAR):

               After earning your license and founding a sponsoring blockage, you still cannot call yourself realtor. You have to join the national association of realtors call yourself a realtor. This designation is also required if you are thinking to participate in most multiple listing services which allow you to see other realtors listing.

  • Renewation of your license regularly:

               Getting a real estate license is not an easy task so you have to keep in mind to renew it. The renewal requirements are different in every state but mostly it has to be renewed after every two or four years.
