Intuitive Eating

Intuitive eating is all the rage right now amongst top nutritionists and celebrities. It is a philosophy that promotes healthy eating through learning to identify body hunger signals. Basically, it is the direct opposite of a diet. It does not tell you when to eat or how to eat. It is based on the belief that your body knows what is best for you, and you should learn to recognize that and eat accordingly.

The first thing to learn about institutive eating is to differentiate between what is physical hunger (when your body actually needs food) and emotion hunger (when hunger is driven by emotions of being sad, happy, boredom, or loneliness). As you start to learn when and how much you actually need to eat, your body automatically starts getting healthier.

Food Sensitivity Testing

Another trend that is actually really beneficial is that of food sensitivity testing. Not everyone is allergic to different foods, some of us only have a slight sensitivity. According to British allergy foundation, food sensitivities and intolerances are actually more common than food allergies. A person may be sensitive to a particular food for many reasons like not having the right enzymes and having adverse reaction to additives or preservatives in the food.

Such sensitivities can cause serious effects like gas, bloating, constipation, nausea, and diarrhea. If you have one of these issues for no particular reason, it might be a good idea to get tested for food sensitivity at doctor’s office or using one of the food sensitivities kits available in the market.
